Good health empowers nations
The people of Africa continue to suffer from the massive burden of preventable and treatable diseases. The effects of disease on productivity, demography, and education are contributing to the steady erosion of Africa’s social and economic gains. For example, in sub-Saharan Africa, losses due to HIV/AIDS have been estimated to be as high as 12% of GNP. And the high prevalence of malaria in some areas has led to a reduction in economic growth of 1 % or more per year.
IME recognizes that good health is a prerequisite for poverty reduction and economic growth. We are dedicated to working with African nations in their efforts to improve the quality of health services and expand access to health care.
